Unauthorized Charges

Has this ever happened to you?

It happened to me once, and to this day I'm not sure if they charged me by accident or someone had gotten hold of my CC details...

Luckily though, MasterCard handled it well and refunded me the money on the 2 unauthorized transactions. I called them up as soon as I got the bill and within a few days they sent me a form to fill out. Then a few days later they told me that my money was fully refunded and that they were still investigating the cause of it. Unfortunately they didn't tell me why or how it happened. But I was satisfied to know that I got my money back. However, I got a new card after that since I didn't want to risk it again.

This has not happened to me, but it did happen to my father. He was in his 70s and got a call from a credit card company because a bunch of lingerie was charged to his card. He didn't realize it, but he had lost his card, and someone had picked it up and started using it. The credit card did not hold him responsible for any of the charges, and we all got a good laugh over the thought of him going on a lingerie buying spree.

That's actually quite funny (not the part about your father losing the card of course). Yeah they are usually on your side when such things happens, and if the purchases were made at a store, it's even easier to prove that it was fraudlent. Online as well, since the items are usually shipped to a strange address, and they can find the culprit through that.

But the key thing is to handle the problem quickly, as soon as you find out that there's some fraudulent activity going on you should take action, and as you said, sometimes the credit card company will alert you of it which is good as you know they are helping you out too.
