Does your employer offer a 401K? My husband has one through his workplace, and they match what he puts in up to a certain percentage. I think this is a great way to save money, as the money that goes in is not taxed, there is "free" money put in by the employer, and the fund generally has a good rate of return. I am self-employed, so no 401K for me

I am also self employeed so I do not have a 401k but if you can get one they are very good. You should always put in as much as your employer will match as it is basically free money.
