I know that Capital One cards are generally easier for people to get if they have bad credit. I obtained a Capital One card years ago when I was recovering from a spell of bad credit myself. Although I was happy to be able to get credit at all, there was an annual fee associated with this card, and the interest rate was high. When my credit improved, I contacted Capital One, and they switched me to a no fee card at a lower interest rate. Overall, I have been happy with this company and their credit products.
